Don’t expect a resurgence of pure survival-horror in the Resident Evil IP anytime soon, as one producer, Masachika Kawata, has openly declared his love for the recent diversification in the franchise.
For Kawata, the movement by RE developers to adapt different “types of games” to the IP keeps the franchise fresh. He argues that, “if we would have brought out all these Resident Evil titles, and they were all focused on survival horror, absolutely I think people would be really sick of Resident Evil.”
Kawata also broadly indicated that popular demand motivates this diversification, saying:
People want to see a lot of different experiences within the Resident Evil universe, and so we’ve been fortunate enough to be able to answer those requests with a lot of different experiences, in different forms, in games.
So, does this mean that a Resident Evil-themed rhythm game is on the horizon? No, probably not – however, do expect to see many more same-y, zombie-focused, third-person shooters coming out this season.

RE 4 > All other RE’s, so I’m not complaining.
