Skyrim Bug Turned Chickens Into Snitches

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the sort of game that’s full of surprises, but according to a PC Gamer interview with Bethesda Executive Producer, Todd Howard, not all of its surprises were intentional. Speaking about Skyrim’s “Radiant Story”, which caters upcoming quests to your character depending on how you’ve been playing, Howard revealed that at one point during the game’s development, the chickens were reporting your crimes to nearby guards.

PC Gamer: “Can you think of anything you’ve seen Radiant Story do that’s surprised you?”

Todd Howard: Let’s see… something that was good lately… but this was a bug – lately we realised that chickens were reporting crimes. I found that very funny. That was just last week: “Why are we getting caught?” “Oh, the CHICKENS are reporting the crimes!”

If this feature had been left in the game, I’d be prepared to proclaim that Skyrim’s chickens are even bigger assholes than chickens in the Zelda series, who mob you and peck you to death if you rile them up. Fortunately, there will be no problem poultry when Skyrim launches on 11/11/11.

I almost wish they’d kept that in the game. It’d be good for a laugh, at any rate.
