Chrono Trigger to be Released on PSN This Tuesday

Chrono Trigger

The PlayStation.Blog has announced a new, or should I say old, title coming to the PSN. A game so good, it will forever have a special place in the hearts of gamers for its story, lovable characters, and gameplay. Chrono Trigger will hit the e-shelves on the 4th of October. Yes, Tuesday.

Chrono Trigger originally came out in 1995 on the SNES. After that it moved to the PlayStation in 2001, and the Nintendo DS in 2008. It even went to mobile phones in Japan, and the virtual console this past May.

I’m sure everyone has played the classic game, leading the excellent Chrono through the story probably multiple times to get each of the endings, right? Well if you’re one of those rare few who have yet to try out this pure joy experience, get ready to have an amazing time on Tuesday.

Ok, I have something to admit. I’ve never played it. Well, I played ten minutes at a friends house when I was young, and yes, I grew up during the SNES era, but I’ve never played the full story. Pathetic… and I call myself a gamer.

I can’t wait for Tuesday though. I’m not sure what has been holding me back from such an esteemed game, but now is my chance, now I will finally see what has made gamers leak tears of joy and/or sorrow.

If the story has not been spoiled for you (as it has not been for me) please put aside something in the range of $10-20, and clear your calendar. While pricing has not been specified, I’m sure that whatever the price, one of the best games of all time (probably) is well worth it.

I doubt it’ll be more expensive than $10. That seems to be the price ceiling for PSOne Classics.

Is this a port of the PS1 version? If so, let’s hope that they’ve fixed the ungodly load times that made that version virtually unplayable. One of the major draws to Chrono Trigger was the smooth transition from exploration to combat, which both took place on the same screen. The PS1 version butchered this by having a several-second stutter as the game loaded combat every time.

I actually played the Chrono Trigger Port on a couple PS1′s and a couple PS2′s and it only had a slight lag time (with casting, and timing in general) on a PS1 that was the PSX (Mini PS1, could have screen attachment)
The other PS1′s and PS2′s played it just like the other versions. Oddly enough though the best times were on a slim PS2 though.
