It would appear as though the third and final entry in the Mario Land saga will be be joining its siblings on the 3DS’s virtual console. According to GoNintendo, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 has just received a rating by the OFLC, a sure indication that the big N plans to release the game for its handheld.

Released in 1994, Wario Land was developed by Nintendo’s R&D1 division, the same team that created the Metroid series. Wario Land shifted the focus from Mario to his diabolical doppelganger, tasking players with tapping into their inner greed as they bully, steal, and plunder their way across the land in search of heaps of treasure. The game even featured multiple endings based on your coin-collecting competence.

Wario Land would be the last game to carry the “Super Mario Land” moniker, and would simultaneously serve as the first entry in its own separate series of games.

No word yet on any potential release date, but for those of you looking to get a bit more use out of your 3DS, this game packed quite a bit of content and would be a great title to revisit once it is available.
