EA has announced the release date of Syndicate, which is a remake of the same titled game from the 90’s. The updated game will come out in the States on the 21st of February, while Europe will have to wait until the 24th.
The game is being developed by Starbreeze Studios, a well-respected group responsible for some popular titles – namely the The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. Along with EA, they hope to “provide a challenging action shooter for today’s gamers as well as fans of the original.”
Interestingly, the original had an isometric viewpoint as the players watched over their four soldiers, but the new one will focus on Miles Kilo, an Eurocorp Syndicate agent. Not to worry, as EA Partners executive producer Jeff Gamon said that fans “will enjoy and recognize the legacy that made it such a classic.”
Like the 1993 Syndicate, the new game will show off an art style that strikes a resemblance to Blade Runner, and judging by the screenshots, Deus Ex. With Syndicate, the original had some excellent storytelling, so the reboot has a lot to live up to.
I, for one, am excited to see what else will come of the game. The original was one of the first instances of dynamic music, changing according to the player’s actions, and I hope the new installment rings true and more when it comes out next February on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
