We hadn’t heard from the action survival game I Am Alive in ages, so we assumed the worst, but an ESRB content breakdown reveals that the game is very much alive. Our only glimpse of the game prior to this was a short teaser trailer, showing a man scouring for water in a demolished downtown Chicago.
According to the description:
“This is an action game in which players assume the role of a man who must find his family in a post-apocalyptic world. From a third-person perspective, players traverse through city ruins and use a machete to kill human enemies in melee-style combat.”
The content description goes on to hint at elements of the game including realistic gunfire, melee finishing moves, and implied “sexual mistreatment” involving other survivors. The blurb also confirms a few instances of cursing in the dialog.
The details are light, but it sounds like I Am Alive is a properly dismal dystopian nightmare, complete with devastation and violent, deviant survivors.
My only concern is that the available details seem to focus on combat, which I’m hoping is marginalized in the name of escaping and challenges of survival. I don’t need another third-person, stabbing-strangers simulator.
I Am Alive currently does not have an official release date and remains shrouded in mystery. However, the ESRB is saying it will be out for PS3, PC, and Xbox 360.
