Valve recently announced new modes to make an appearance in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Arsenal: Demolition and Arsenal: Arms Race are based on the popular Gun Game mod found in Counter-Strike currently, and will come with eight official maps.
Technically, they’re new modes because Valve is giving them the official make-over, but fans of Gun Game mod will probably be familiar with the mechanics behind the new modes. Players will begin rounds with basic weapons, which will then automatically upgrade to fancier weapons as kills are scored.
There are many variations of Gun Game in Counter-Strike: Source, including modes where players start with powerful weapons and work down, or where they do the opposite. Unfortunately, details are scarce, but Michael Barr, one of the creators of the original mod has been working with Valve to get the best out of the update.
The eight new maps are completely new, and will accompany the new modes, but it is hard to tell what to expect. With some current Gun Game maps being cramped with high visibility, it could be interesting to see what Valve makes with to mix it all up.
In addition, check out some new screenshots after the break.
Counter-Strike: GO will release on Xbox 360, PS3, and Steam early next year, but until then, there’s always a few servers running Gun Game in CS: Source.
