Final Fantasy Theatrhythm showed its chops in a quick gameplay trailer released this morning. The 3DS game is modeled after other rhythm titles on the platform with moving spheres and whatnot to follow with your stylus. As part of the lineup announced for TGS, more details on Theatrhythm will be coming soon.
There are over 50 songs to play, with at least three songs each for every Final Fantasy, from I through XIII, corresponding with field, event, and battle stages. It sounds like Theatrhythm will be using the original tracks, rather than arrangements, along with a few CG cutscenes.
Check out the trailer for yourself below.
I’m internally conflicted because it’s exciting to have songs like The Decisive Battle from FFVI and familiar characters show their faces, but I’m also skeptical (and somewhat underwhelmed) by the graphics and gameplay showcased in the trailer. Plus, the soulless eyes of those voodoo-style sprites will forever haunt my nightmares.
