Minecraft 1.8 has been “accidentally on purpose” leaked by Mojang, just two days before its official release. A pre-beta version appeared on 4chan, presumably planted by a Mojang employee, which then spread to Reddit and the rest of the internet. As can be expected, the Minecraft community has erupted in praise for the new update, which (in this writer’s humble opinion) is the best yet.
The update brings a plethora of features to the table, such as sprinting, new biome generation code (designed to make the transitions less jarring), a new lighting system, new mobs such as the Blue Spider and the Endermen, NPC villages, experience points, and a food consumption bar.
Hit the break for a video and a couple of screenshots, uploaded by yours truly.
At the moment, there’s only one major server running on the new update – Reddit Public Chaos (chaos.nerd.nu). The new server browser is rather nice, showing a player count and a connection strength indicator.
Notch has commented publicly on the leak, saying that he’s “fine with [us] using it”. You can download the leaked jarfile here.

Damon has done it again.
I think Notch leaked it on purpose.
Possible reasons I’ve thought of are:
To get lots of testing so they can get bug reports and fix them
To make people shut up about it being delayed
To show people why it was delayed with all the bugs and stuff
@Wafffo : you are right

Where do we download it?
Sweet! It’s good that Notch did this. Even though Jeb is working on this mainly..
