In what has to be an absolutely unprecedented blunder, Steam users looking to get their hands on Techland and Deep Silver’s new zombie offering early this morning were in for a ghastly shock, as it would appear that the version of the game released online today is actually the development build of the game.
The buggy nature of the PC version of Dead Island was originally chalked up to the game being a poor console port. However, players soon discovered they had access to a number of developer-specific tools, such as no-clipping and a toggling third-person perspective.
Digging through some of the game’s code confirmed suspicions that the wrong build of Dead Island had been updated to Steam’s servers, with some evidence suggesting that the version PC gamers have right now was actually built for the Xbox 360.
Because of the incomplete nature of this build, some of the game’s features are glitcy or entirely non-functional at this time, such as Dead Island’s online mode.
At this time, there has been no official word from the developers regarding this gaffe. We’ll have more information on this story as it develops.

What a clusterf***
Obviously, they’ve given Steam the true Zombie Edition of the game, which simulates the experience a zombie would have playing Dead Island. As part of your brain has rotted away, so too has your ability to experience multiplayer!
