No more wistfully gazing at screenshots of lightsabers and Sith cloaks for you, nerds of the world. The beta for the highly-anticipated Star Wars: The Old Republic MMORPG will begin this weekend, provided you signed up for the chance to be selected on their official website.
If you’re kicking yourself for not pre-ordering the game, you can give it a rest. It was revealed at PAX Prime this past weekend that everyone registered for the beta on the site will have an equal chance to be chosen, pre-order or not.
But, don’t wait too long if you are interested, as it was previously announced that not only will the release date be drifting nebulously in the Holiday 2011 zone, but pre-order copies – even virtual ones – will be strangely limited.
I personally received a high-five from my Gamestop employee for putting my name down on a copy, though Bioware has not confirmed these high-fives as a official pre-order gifts.

hey guys, nice typo. the release is still Holiday 2011, not 2012
After seeing TOR at PAX, I’m looking forward to getting my hands on it. I’m more skeptical about the game after having seen it, but if there’s any franchise that has the potential to wow me, it’s Star Wars.
