Team Ico’s highly anticipated game The Last Guardian has made slow progress, earning the ire of investors and disheartening impatient fans. This year’s lineup of PS3 titles is missing some major contenders, and when VG247 prodded SCE Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, he had this to say in reassurance:
The Last Guardian team has been making progress. It’s been very difficult in terms of seeing the progress: not as fast as we’d been hoping for, and the team has been under big pressure. But we’re still making progress, so I’d like to continue to support and keep waiting for great news sometime in the future.
Team Ico’s spiritual successor to Shadow of the Colossus was first unveiled at E3 2009. It was initially slotted for a 2011 release, but when director Fumito Ueda announced a delay back in April, a disturbing trend was born. The Last Guardian is a story about a boy and his giant eagle-dog, a tale bearing the bittersweet sentiments of Team Ico’s previous masterpieces. Still no news on a concrete release date, but I’m willing to wait for it to be great.
