Ninja Theory’s Devil May Cry Reboot Gameplay Trailer Has Lots of Fighting

A new trailer for Ninja Theory’s Devil May Cry reboot has been unveiled at Gamescon.

You may remember that when the game was first introduced last year at the Tokyo Games Show, under the name DmC, a lot of hardcore fans were up in arms about Dante’s new scrawny-black-haired-hipster-street-urchin look. There were also some grievances with the franchise being handed over to British developer Ninja Theory, as many feared that Hideki Kamiya’s trademark frenetic, combo-based combat would be lost.

Check it out after the bump.

As if to make a point, the new trailer – lasting just under a minute – focuses solely on the business of monster swatting. Dante is pulling off a variety of air combos and slow motion finishers, whilst blasting all kinds of ugly with his duel pistols. If you care to scrutinize more closely with me, at the 35 second mark, Dante seems to appear in his traditional red coat/white hair combo. Judging by the E3 trailer it might be some kind of rage mode, for when you absolutely gotta kill every motherf****r in the room.

And so, a hundred fanboys blew a collective sigh of relief, and went back to vent frustration at some other major injustice against accepted canon…

DmC is scheduled for release sometime next year for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

I’m still weary. I know that Ninja Theory can do good games (I loved Enslaved) but I still can’t get over Dante’s new look, even if they did include the original look for the new devil mode (I’m only assuming that’s what the crazy mode is)

The biggest hurdle they’ve got to get over is the combat. Heavenly Sword sort of had a decent combat system, enslaved was effective for what it was. It is leagues below the likes of Bayonetta or any of the original DMC games.
