How do you make a game with no multiplayer component less attractive for the second hand market? Cut single player content, of course! That’s exactly what id is doing with Rage. Creative Director Tim Willits recently revealed in an interview with Eurogamer that those who purchased Rage new would get downloadable access to the game’s sewer system for free, something those who buy it second hand will be missing out on until they pay up.
Regarding the sewers, Willits goes on to say that “Those hatches are all over. Most people never find them. But as soon as you do, you’re like, oh. And then you start to look for it. That’s our first-time buyer incentive.”
So what say you, gaming masses? Is the fact the sewers are “hard to find” an ample excuse to cut single player content for those who buy the game used?

I’ll be getting the pc version, so this doesn’t affect me…but this is still pretty stupid. Any word on what used buyers will have to pay for it?
Didn’t say. 10 bucks is probably a pretty safe bet, though.
I don’t care for it. I know why they are doing it and they certainly have the right, but I just don’t dig it.
But then, I’ve already pre-ordered the damn game, so I guess I’m aiding the enemy. Or something.
I’m so on the fence with Rage. It looks great, but I’ve been burned so many times!
Those of you who know my views on DRM will not be shocked to hear at all that this has outraged me. Now rather than putting up my normal wall o text spew, I’m just gonna say that I will never buy a game from Id again as long as I live.
and people like you don’t support game companies! instead you just continue to suck the dick of gamestop
Apparently Rage does have multiplayer. Woops.
