Microsoft’s controller-free Kinect peripheral has been out for nearly a year now (where does the time go?) and its game library still resembles a toddler’s playpen filled with unused, uninteresting toys. Meanwhile, the hardcore crowd has largely continued to scoff at the Kinect as a device with no real value to them. That’s all about to change, however, as Kinect is receiving its very first Mature-rated title, Rise of Nightmares, courtesy of Sega.
The game’s debut, red-band trailer, while full of blood, dismemberment and decapitation, remains a light-hearted and silly affair thanks to some goofy music and over-the-top presentation. Sega is no stranger to this sort of wacky, on-rails experience, having developed House of the Dead: Overkill for the Wii and PS3. Of course, Rise of Nightmares looks to employ a more full-body control scheme given the nature of Kinect. It’s really just nice to see something other than a family-oriented game on Kinect – gives me hope for its future. Head past the break to see the full trailer.

I believe I read this is also being developed by the House of the Dead team. This makes me want a Kinect now…
OH DEAR GOD what a horrible image to wake up to.
Now if they would just drop the price of Kinect! I’m just hoping the game stays true to the nature of the trailer and doesn’t try to be serious.
That picture of the nurse is enticing. I know I’d regret it but it looks worth it to me. I play too many horror games.
I’ve already been toying with the idea of buying a Kinect solely for Child of Eden. If they actually produce a compelling horror game for it, I’ll buy one immediately.
That trailer was AWESOME. This is the first time I’ve seen a game that looks like it’d work well with Kinect. Color me excited.
