Blizzard Trademarks “Mists of Pandaria”, Possible WoW Expansion?

08

In a move that has baffled everyone, Blizzard has trademarked the name “Mists of Pandaria”. The name references the Pandaren, a race in the Warcraft universe that were originally created by Sam “Samwise” Didier, Blizzard Entertainment’s art director, as an April Fool’s joke. For whatever reason, however, the players loved the little guys – and in response Blizzard stuck them in Warcraft III’s expansion, The Frozen Throne.

While it is impossible to know what the name was trademarked for, Boubouille of MMO-Champion seems pretty confident that this is the next World of Warcraft expansion. Personally, I’m not so sure, and I wouldn’t completely rule out a mobile game or something along those lines just yet.

That and, uh, it seems like a strange direction to go after, you know, Deathwing.

Either way, Blizzcon is fast approaching, and if this really is the next WoW expansion, you can bet your 85 shaman that something will be revealed there.

Well, think of who they have after Deathwing. All I can think of (aside from unnamed old gods, who they can throw in just about anywhere) is Sargeras and Kil’Jaeden, who both represent the same group, a group they already had an expansion based around only a few years ago.

Actually, come to think of it, Arthas hasn’t had nearly enough miraculous comebacks.

That last post was supposed to end in “ICECROWN CITADEL WAS MERELY A SETBACK”, but I fucked up somehow…

      Keep this in mind:

During one of the Twilight Highlands quests where you are doing some crap against Cho’gall, one of his heads specifically says that “his” master is more ferocious and terrifying than Deathwing, obviously speaking about some Old God.

Also, we know that an Old God is behind… well, everything awful.

I have a hunch that all of the Old Gods were planted by Sargeras YE LONG AGO, but I don’t have anything to support that.

Well if that timeline that leaked a few months back is to be believed, then they have at least two more WoW expansions planned after Cataclysm. If that’s all they have planned (lolyeahright) then I’d say the antagonist of this one will be the head of those Old Gods, and Sargeras in the expansion after. If they plan on continuing, well, they’re going to have to come up with a lot more Lovecraftian names….

Nah bro, on the scale of universal evils, Old Gods > Sargeras. Sure, Sargeras is the biggest bad we haven’t faced yet, so progression wise, it might look like with two Old God asses kicked and no flaming Titans down, he is the ultimate. But if we remember our War of the Ancients trilogy by (*shudder*) Richard A. Knaak, then he’s just the penultimate bad dude. So, SPOILER ALERT, but apparently, the Titans after the Reordering of Azeroth decided it would be a good idea to imprison a blight so great they couldn’t excise it without having to Death Star the world underneath the most powerful font of raw arcane energy in the cosmos– and so, what the Old Gods did was engineer the entire War of the Ancients simply to facilitate their escape when Sargeras made his big appearance, with that innate evildoer knowledge that he was completely within their ability to overpower. There’s a lot of other bullshit tied into their manipulation of Deathwing but I’m really fucking tired, so I’m just going to say that:

goddamnit Blizzard it’s too early to hype people for your April Fools bullshit, and if this is serious, then truly they must be scraping the barrel creatively because it’s not like they have any other more plausible avenues to explore in terms of setting (*COUGH*turalyon*COUGH*) but they’re also falling back on a dumb joke their artist made that I can’t imagine most WoW players in this day and age would remember the origins of, or even GET.

I hope it’s a spinoff. I love the Warcraft universe but I just can’t stand the MMO.
