Minecraft Nearing 3 Million Copies Sold

Minecraft, the epitome of Indie game success, has revealed that it is closing in on three million copies sold. This great news, announced on the official Minecraft website, is even more staggering considering that the game is still technically in the beta stage of development. 

Markus “Notch” Persson first developed Minecraft way back in 2009 and it rapidly took hold amongst the gaming community due almost entirely to word of mouth and several online communities like Reddit and YouTube. Further statistics show that Minecraft also has over 10 million registered users and as of writing, a further ten thousand eager gamers have purchased the game within the last 24 hours. The game’s full release is still on track for November and both Android and iOS versions of the game are also currently in development.
