On Wednesday July 13th, Microsoft registered the domain names Microsoft-Sony.com and Sony-Microsoft.com, as spotted by a member of the NeoGAF forums, and verified by a whois search. There is no information yet as to what this is in preparation for, but it is not the first time such a partnership has been forged, or even implied, between the two companies.
Will this be for something game changing like a PlayBox 720, plausible like a Sony Windows 7 phone or necessary like Blu-Ray adoption? Those are the most popular guesses on the internets right now, but tell us what you think in the comments.

You know, I really wouldn’t object to a joint console system between these companies. I think it is extremely unlikely, but if it did happen, that could save me a bit of money.
A joint console would be epic, but I would be so shocked if that were the case. They would both benefit highly from a joint product especially with Nintendo stealing the entire casual crowd and Sony and Microsoft having to compete for the hardcore market.
It would be totally awesome if they did make a joint console. However, even though the console itself would be amazing, it could also turn out to be horrible for everyone. The Xbox 360 and PS3 are pretty much the biggest and only gaming consoles that people use nationwide. The only other one is the Wii, which people don’t usually use to the extent of the 360 and PS3. Because of this, it would eliminate any big competition, meaning they could jack up the prices however high they want to. Instead of $60 a year for Xbox Live, they could make it $120 a year because they wouldn’t have competition to worry about. If this happens, I sense people will start to be a lot more fond of the Wii.
the end of the console wars? NOOOOOOOO! it entertains me watching people argue!
Nah, next week Sega’s gunna announce the Dreamcast 2.
There’s not a snowball’s chance in hell they are making a joint console. And I’ll take that bet to the bank.
I wonder when we’ll hear about Sony’s response to this little bit of information… Or even an offical statement by either company.
There’s almost no way this could happen though, both companies love money waaayyy 2 much to make a joint product.
