More Rumors Point to E3 2012 Reveal of Microsoft’s Next Console

03

Thiiiiiiiiiiiis big!

It looks like some deep speculation has already started regarding next year’s E3. A source close to Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division has told BGR that Microsoft is planning to unveil its next Xbox console at next year’s E3. The console has, apparently, been in development since 2006.

This isn’t the first rumor to point at a 2012 E3 reveal. Earlier this month a source from Crytek told VideoGamer that the studio was working on a title for Microsoft’s next-gen platform, and that it was slated for a 2012 unveiling.

Of course, there has been no official word from either Microsoft or Crytek, and for now it is really nothing more than a rumor. Still, it would certainly stir things up for the Wii U if it turns out to be true.

This is…interesting. If these rumors prove to be true, Sony is going to be last to base yet again in the console market – with the PS3, they were playing catchup for years with the Xbox 360, and I’m assuming they don’t want to do that again, especially now that the Wii U also wants in on the hardcore space.

Of course, a couple of weeks ago there were comments from someone at Sony that the PS3 was as good as they would do for a long time, and to not expect another console for the next few years – I hope that doesn’t change just because Microsoft is putting down a new console.
