Not that anyone could give you a first-hand account until months after its release, but Gears of War’s Horde mode was very cool. It literally changed what people expected from AAA titles and their multiplayer. To show us that they haven’t been resting on their laurels and actually went and made things better, the folks at Epic Games have given us a Horde 2.0 video tutorial.
While the easy thing to do would be simply adding bosses or new enemy types, the new Horde mode goes above and beyond a simple sequel upgrade. Players earn cash from kills or completed challenges which can then be used to build fortifications, supplies or even resurrection after death. Looks like somebody at Epic has been playing a bit of DotA.
Check out the video after the break.
Gears of War 3 will be released to the Xbox 360 on September 20th, later this year, for North America and Europe. The five people in Japan that own the system will have to wait until the 22nd.

In my humble opinion, I am very skeptical of this! The action packed strategic survival mode that I am a big fan of has been turned into a hold-the-fort mode. My main concern is, will it suck out the challenge (buying lives seems game-breaking)? Will there be a classic mode? I just think the system might be too much to fuss with and I don’t want turrets and barriers stealing the action. I’m hoping it will still be fun with a superior experience
It’s such a shame the devs couldn’t take this one step further and just straight-off allowed players to place turrets and barriers wherever they liked. :\
Simply just restricting placement possibilities for battlefield objects really does just turn hoard mode into another gigantic grind.
