After a really impressive showing of the features of the PlayStation Vita (the recently confirmed handle for their new portable), Sony revealed the cost for the handheld that can. It will be offered at two price points, a WiFi-only model at $250 and an AT&T 3G Model at $300. Even with graphics that look comparable to modern-gen systems (It looks better than most Wii games) and a top of the line, multi-touch, OLED screen, the price is extremely generous. What’s even more exciting are the possibilities for on-the-go content creation in games like Little Big Planet and Mod Nation Racers, both of which are confirmed for the system.

This is honestly a huge surprise for me. Considering all the features, which are comparable to those found on your standard iTouch device, I was seriously expecting the price to be upwards of $350. Matching the 3DS price is ballsy, impressive, and unexpected. I’m really really pleased by this. Price was going to be what dictated whether or not I bought this, and now I’m sold.
I was sooooo happy about the price point, it’s like better than I ever expected, and they deffinitly are getting a purchase from me this fall. With that lineup of games, and the hundreds of other great PSP titles already on the market, It’s certain shaping up to be the “year of the playstation”. I am eager to see the specs on the system though, see if they took out all the internal memory or not.
Oh yeah! And the fact that it has X-game chat gives me high hopes that the PS4 will have this feature, and BOY can I not wait to see it
Quite interesting how it’s set to compete with the iPod touch. The Apple fanboy in me says this is Sony running scared, and they’re doing a fantastic job of it. I might actually buy a Sony portable, especially with all those exclusives.
So far the PS Vita has a great lineup (sad that they didn’t show more footage of Gravity Daze (they only showed it on the compilation)), the price is quite great, and the power of the device is amazing. I might buy this one on day one, though, I would like to know which games will be released at launch.
Maybe I’m the only one, but I think $250 is just way too much for a handheld (for the 3DS or the Vita). I understand you’re getting a lot for what you pay with the two new handhelds, but it still just rubs me the wrong way.
That said, matching the 3DS’s price was the right move by Sony.
i might get this and throw my crappy ipod touch in the garbage
