While you wouldn’t know it based on the non-stop crying by PC gamers, Crytek actually treats the PC with a bit of respect. The latest proof of that? Crytek is offering the entire CryEngine 3 to modders for free.
Alongside dealing with nigh on every niggling, and in some cases inane, issue that gamers had with Crysis 2, Crytek have also been very open and supportive of the modding community. Despite having about as much technological know how as a dead hamster, I personally love the modding scene for all it does to extend, and often improve, some of my favorite games. So any company that supports it enough to offer their entire freaking game engine for personal use is pretty saintly in my book.
Of course, if you actually want to make and sell a game using the engine you will have to pay the company, but next to nothing has been held back for the programmer who just wants to mess around a little bit with CryEngine 3. Seriously, everyone who criticized Crytek and accused them of neglecting the the PC community better take a number and get ready to grovel because this is pretty impressive. Good show all round.

Gentlemen of the internet, I say ye crytek
All good PC games should have modding as a requirement and preferably should be included at launch.
