Mega Man Legends 3 Will Live Or Die By Prototype Version

It would be pretty accurate to say that Mega Man Legends 3 has been on shaky ground since the project was announced. Capcom has painted it to look like a game being made purely for the fans – a game that is dependent on hype, basically, to stay alive.

It looks like that trend will continue with the launch of a playable demo that will be released soon on the 3DS eShop. The so-called “Prototype Version” will literally determine the fate of the upcoming game. If a lot of people download it, they will probably eagerly continue production, but if it is a dud… well, into development hell it goes.

It looks like it is all on you, Mega Man fans. Check out the full announcement on the Capcom-Unity blog.

I’ll certainly download it! I’d hate to see Legends 3 never make it out of production.

They better promote the CRAP outta it then, because a lot of people are going to skim over this demo and that could hurt it’s chances…

Why is it that Capcom seems so willing and ready to bow out of another Mega Man Legends game at every turn? Almost everyone who’s played the games enjoy them. The main reason that MML did not get the best sales back then was because of a lack of promotion, really.

This is also a really bad judge of interest. They’re essentially expecting players who want MML3 to already have a 3DS and the means to download the demo. Isn’t the 3DS underselling right now (based upon estimates)? How many of those purchasers know of MML3, much less wanting to play it?

And they’re willing to drop the effort they’ve already put into making the game because of demo download numbers? Even if it’s just a bluff, that implies a lack of confidence that shouldn’t be in a company as popular as Capcom.

I want the game, I really do, but I’m becoming more and more anxious about Capcom dropping the ball on purpose.
