Yesterday, Shigeru Miyamoto, Master of Mario, told the Francophone world “I promise to do all I can to deliver the new Mario game this year.” For those of us who speak English (a good five times the amount of French speakers, if you believe Yahoo! Answers), he filled in some of the details while in London today. “It’s a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario on N64,” he told EDGE, before going on to sagely say that talking about it won’t “convey the message,” adding that people should wait for E3.
Shockingly, Miyamoto then claimed that the game is “completely original, and coming this year.” Which is an odd statement to make about a game where the most exciting thing you can mention, other than using 3D for a 3D system, is the return of the tanooki suit. It’s not as good as the Tails suit referenced above, but they’ve probably already got that one covered. Still, excitement abounds from fanboys far and wide, despite the fact that saying a game is a combination of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy means the game is Super Mario 64 plus Super Mario 64 plus space. Hey! Space is another word for 3D!

No, it’s literally a combination of those two games. Your right eye plays Mario 64 and your left eye plays Mario Galaxy. You’d think they’d sync up in meaningful ways or something, but they don’t. It will just make your eyes bleed, but we’ll still buy it because it’ll be the only new 3DS game for 6 months.
That’s genius.
