Dead Rising 2 Re-Release Reveals Revisionist Zombie Racket

Suppose you had an emotional attachment to Frank West, the photojournalist who headed up the 2006 blockbuster success, Dead Rising. Good news, then, zombie-slayers! As part of their Captivate press show, Capcom has announced Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, which brings back on the first game’s protagonist to fill the shoes of Chuck Greene in a reimagining of the second game.

Hit the trailer up after the break!

While not canonically so, Off The Record follows up Case West, a DLC pack for the Xbox 360 that brings the growling protagonist back for a post-game story.  In Off The Record, the entirety of the modestly-received 2010 sequel is re-imagined with Frank West back in the leading role.

As much as this sounds like an iffy-at-best fan mod, Capcom promises that the entire plot is rewritten to accommodate the character change, though it’ll presumably follow some events from the original game. Fortune City will be seen slightly differently through Frank West’s eyes, as new environments, enemies, and weapons will be brought to the mix.

Off The Record also brings back many of the side bits from the original game, including a return of the experience and Prestige Points system that made the photography perspective all the more fun. Shaking our unshakeable confidence in the stability and polish of their games, Capcom also insists that the game will be fully optimized to bring it to visual and performance parity with other games this year.

Details are forthcoming on the re-release. Expect Dead Rising 2: Off The Record to be a full length release sometime this year for Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Wow, this is just crazy. Why make a new game when you can repackage an older one?

Always did love Frank West more, but do they really have to release this as a FULL game? I think a $15 download would do… just have it as a separate campaign or something.

Maybe the PS3 version will work good this time.
