Hear me, fellow Minecraftians, we no longer have to stay the cold nights alone. We no longer have to fight the hordes of undead with only our sword to our side. For now, we have a friend. No, it isn’t your friend Ted from your Minecraft server. It’s a shaggy best friend, possibly just as alone as you.
Calling to our brethren aside, this week proposes a large update for our lovely blocky game Minecraft. In version 1.4 we’ll be seeing tamable wolves that will fight alongside you and follow you. That’s not all! You can also make cookies, but you’ll have to find the cocoa in the dark depths of a dungeon. Regardless of the severe danger, it’s totally worth it.
Here’s the rest of the ‘patch notes’ that are posted here on the Minecraft site.
- Sleeping in a bed now resets your spawn position
- New Minecraft logo
- Holding shift while climbing will hang on to the ladder
- Spiders will no longer trample crops
- Lots and lots of infrastructure for Statistics lists and Achievements
Over the course of the last few weeks we’ve been seeing many updates from Notch’s Twitter on the subject of Achievements and Statistics being brought into Minecraft.. Unfortunately, Notch tweeted this morning that “stats and achievements are getting pushed back to the next update because they don’t work,” which seems entirely understandable. At least he didn’t beat around the bush.
So we can plan to see achievements for riding a pig off a cliff when the next patch hits.
Oh and here’s a picture of one of the wolves. They apparently can sit for you when you tame them, and they shake off water after they swim. They’re probably the most adorable thing in Minecraft besides slimes.
