Battlefield 3 Maps Downsized For Console

Uh-oh console lovers, I’ve got some bad news for you. A DICE representative told technology blog CERFY that console versions of Battlefield 3 would have scaled down maps compared to their PC counterparts. As battles on console are limited to only 24 people, this makes considerable sense.

The good news is this won’t affect you too much if you are a pilot in BF3, as air vehicles will have a larger map to fly around in. I know I’ll be playing BF3 on PC, but I can’t imagine console players will be too happy with this news. After all, the Battlefield series has always been about massive battles on large maps. While smaller maps were acceptable in Bad Company, I feel like the true Battlefield experience will only be felt on the PC at this point.

Will you be playing Battlefield 3 on PC or console? Let us know in the comments.

I think the obligatory “PCs are better than consoles post” is needed…because sometimes they are?

Anyway, this is why I play FPSs on PC, bigger player counts and larger maps, not for everyone, of course, but I just need constant chaos happening at all times.

I hope console players will enjoy Battlefield: Call of Duty.

I’ll be playing BF3 with my PC brethren.

I’m actually stoked to hear this news, because it means the PC version won’t be dumbed down just so one version can be made for all platforms. yay!

Ugh…if only my PC was good enough to run this game…

I was really excited about getting this game for my PS3, but idk now…I just need a really good replacement for CoD that I’ll be playing for a while. Maybe Uncharted 3 can help me.

    Well, that’s kind of disappointing…

I use my Xbox 360 for a cheap, fast way to be able to play most modern titles with ease. I guess since I don’t feel like dropping $600+ on a gaming computer, and cancelling my Gamefly sub (which I am very happy with) I don’t get to enjoy larger maps.

I would switch to PC, but the pure ease of console gaming makes me stay.

    Just my 2 cents.

I think Jets were the only thing that could go out of the boundaries for extended distances/time in BF2 so it would make sense that that trend would continue to BF3.

I think DICE is the only developer appeasing the PC community anymore. Makes sense since they started on PC. Im looking at you Call of Duty.

lol good for you DICE. If one version of a game can be better, than it should be better! Hopefully I’ll have a new computer to be able to handle this baby by the time it comes out.
