A lot of gamers were disappointed by the untimely death of the Shenmue franchise. Despite a sizeable cult following and critical acclaim, development on the series has fizzled out in the decade since Shenmue II’s release. While the recently announced mobile and Facebook iterations will give fans a chance to get reacquainted with Ryo and his love of sailors, they won’t change the unfortunate fact that the saga currently stands at a massive cliffhanger.
Thankfully, closure has finally arrived. Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki, presumably discontented with the lack of resolution, has teamed up with the guys from Mega 64 to reveal how he’s always intended for the series to end. Oh, and Gears of War creator/noted fashion victim Cliff Bleszinski is there too, inexplicably playing a hand drum.
You can watch the video after the jump, but if you’re still hopeful that Sega will eventually greenlight Shenmue III (and Suzuki totally is), you might want to steer clear of the completely serious spoilers contained within.
