Hey, Geeks, just wanted to tip everyone off to some very wonderful resources that have been surfacing the past week for early adopters of Marvel vs. Capcom 3. As I’m sure all you regular readers have figured out, we here at Piki Geek love our fighters, having written a feature on the topic and a positive review for the new cross-over fighter, so we tend to keep our ears close to the ground when it comes to reporting developments in the genre. For some of you MVC 3 is your first fighter, so I’m sure the game mechanics are still a bit esoteric and confusing. Don’t fret just yet, however, because Shoryuken has created a series of fantastic videos that help showcase the fundamental techniques that will help you elevate your game from complete scrub to, well, sort-of-scrubby.
The videos detail everything from basic movement and combat to using X-Factor (the game’s unique power-up mechanic) and taking advantage of tools that you otherwise might have overlooked. The narration is very straight forward, and even helped me, a fighting game veteran, to expand my own toolbox.
Hit the jump for the videos as well as a few other important resources to help you step up your game.
If you’re still left with questions after watching the vids, make sure to head over to Shoryuken’s forums and check out their MVC3 wiki. Also, Event Hubs has started updating their own character specific guides, so make sure to drop by and give them a look as well. Learning the fundamentals is the first step to fighting game greatness, as stated in my last feature, so don’t be concerned with learning convoluted combo chains till you’ve got your bread and butter stuff perfected. As I’ve said before, learning the mechanics of one fighter will give you a strong foundation that can and will lend itself to other games in the genre. If you can combo in MVC3, chances are you’ll be able to take what you know and apply it to other fighters (like Blazblue) with little effort. So study up and practice! You can’t rely on jump-kick into sweep for your entire life!
