Most game enthusiasts would agree that the inclusion of pirates make any game at least ten times better. Developer Piranha Bytes is applying the well known knowledge to Risen 2: Dark Waters, the sequel to the 2009 RPG, Risen.
Along with announcing the game, publisher Deep Silver has released a handful of screenshots showcasing the open world RPG. Piranha Bytes claims that Risen 2 is set to feature open ended quests, a highly interactive game world, and a fresh new pirate theme. Read on for more information and screens after the break.
Set some years after the original game, Risen 2 takes place in a unique new tropical world, where the player will duke it out with sea monsters and pirates alike. The original game, Rise, was released two years ago to generally positive reviews. Many critics (and yours truly) praised the game for the immersive world and nonlinear storyline, while criticizing its technical flaws and occasionally cumbersome combat system.
Personally, if Risen 2 can maintain the original game’s fantastic world design and sense of exploration, while tweaking the combat system and steep difficulty curve, I will be a jolly pirate.
