EA has apparently decided release day is the best time to announce new DLC for Dead Space 2. Dead Space 2: Severed will give players an extra two chapters in the single player game, which will follow the story of Gabe Weller and Lexine Murdock from the prequel, Dead Space: Extraction. Perhaps other people are a lot more “hardcore” than I am, but I haven’t even gotten off of my lazy ass to pick up my copy of Dead Space 2, let alone beat the game and demand more content. Luckily for me (and unfortunately for the super hardcore players), Severed is not out now, though it will be “coming soon”.
For once though, announcing DLC right after the release of a game doesn’t just look like a money grab, since every copy of Dead Space 2 comes with a free Online Pass code that will grant you access to all online features and content. While this is obviously a big “suck it” from EA to used game buyers, it’s certainly nice for the DLC to be free. It’s not the end of the world for the frugal though, as the Online Pass can be purchased for $10 on Xbox LIVE or PSN.
