Today, Nintendo announced the 2010 American sales figures for the Nintendo DS and Wii, including the news that the DS has become the country’s best-selling video game system ever. Since its release in November 2004, the DS and its subsequent upgrades have sold over 47 million in the United States alone. In addition to that, the Wii also broke another record in 2010: selling more than 7 million units in the USA for three years in a row. According to Nintendo, that sales milestone had never been reached by another console ever before.
To cap off the announcement, Nintendo provided a quote from Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America president, commenting on the company’s impending world domination:
“When we look back at 2010, we see consumers time and again turning to the value and enjoyment of our products. When we look ahead to 2011, we see new portable technology and more great Wii games that need to be seen to be believed.”
And I, for one, welcome our new portable overlords.
