Do you absolutely love Sonic? Did Sonic Colors leave you begging for more? If you answered, “YES!” to either, or both, of these questions, then get pumped for what you’re about to read. In the latest Game Informer, a SEGA marketing rep unveiled that two of three big Sonic the Hedgehog announcements are coming in the first part of 2011. Alan Pritchard, marketing VP for the company had this to say, “We’re looking to improve the quality and focus of a pure Sonic platform gaming experience. We have released Sonic 4 digitally, which has reviewed very well. Free Riders was really about being a part of the launch of Kinect. Then, we have Colors, which is our pure Sonic gaming experience. That’s had some high scores. It’s also the highest pre-selling pure Sonic title we’ve ever had.” He went on to state, “But to your point, we have some announcements in the early part of next year that will further support and add to this strategy. There will be two of three big Sonic announcements in the early part of next calendar year.”
So, while there are sure to be some surprises, you can feel comfortable assuming one of these mystery titles will be the second episode of Sonic the Hedgehog 4. It also wouldn’t be too far fetched to think that a Sonic Colors sequel is in the works considering its recent success on the Wii. As for the third, well, that’s open to speculation as well.
While S4 and Sonic Colors were two of the hedgehog’s more impressive outings, they were still undoubtedly underwhelming. So, here’s hoping these next games will feel less like a disappointment and more like the original Genesis trilogy. Did you hear that SEGA? Less of a disappointment! Get your act together.
