It has been confirmed today that Capcom’s Dead Rising: Case Zero is 2010’s fastest selling Xbox Live Arcade Title. This is no small feat seeing as this year saw the release of a slew of great XBLA games such as Monday Night Combat, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Limbo, Perfect Dark HD and Toy Soldiers. It’s been reported that Case Zero sold 140,000 units during the month of October alone and has gone on to sell more than 600,000 altogether. Those are staggering numbers for an XBLA title. Of course, the download only cost 400 Microsoft Points, so when you add that into the equation along with Case Zero’s namesake, you can easily see why it sold so quickly.
Nonetheless, this is excellent news for the big C. As expected though, they weren’t the only company to see some Xbox Live success during this Fall season. Sega’s Sonic 4, while a bit of a disappointment in the eyes of many, brought in 98,000 downloads in the month of October, making it the second best selling game that month. Naturally, Sonic 4 cost a great deal more to download than Case Zero, so while the hedgehog’s numbers pale in comparison, actual revenue doesn’t as much.
At the end of the day, it looks like people in general just love them some XBLA games. If you have an account and haven’t checked out any of the titles I’ve mentioned, do yourself a favor and stop being a stingy bastard and buy one of these great games – some are better than the garbage you can buy from the store and are priced at a fraction of the cost.
