Square Enix is taking a stab at the social networking craze with its release of two new titles, Chcocobo’s Crystal Tower and Knights of the Crystals, for the colossal social media giant known as Facebook. Although both games are in still in beta form, they will undoubtedly act as yet another fantastic distraction and way to sit at your desk during work hours and whittle away precious time doing nothing.
In Chocobo’s Crystal Tower, players are tasked with the objective of raising a Chocobo and sending it out to trounce various baddies in a way only a yellow-feathered bird-like creature can. However, fighting hordes of minions isn’t the only thing that this little adventure has to offer. When one is not dueling to the death with these monsters, a player can feed, groom, and care for their Chocobo in order to raise them from just a wee-baby chick to a full grown adult. Of course, a Facebook game wouldn’t be complete without some sort of obligatory social aspect, therefore CCT fulfills the requirement by allowing friends to help raise each others’ Chocobos and trade various items they collect on their hunts.
Knights of the Crystals, on the other hand, is for those looking for something a bit less painstakingly cute, taking on a more traditional Square Enix style of gameplay. The concept of enabling players to venture out on quests and collect loot and experience to level up their characters is in full force here, and with artwork and character designs Ryoma Ito, best known for his work on Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, KotC looks to be a very solid title if gaming it up on the FB is your thing.
Both games are available right now and are completely free-to-play. But, like many other titles of its type, Chocobo’s Crystal Tower and Knights of the Crystals allows players to purchase items to enhance their gaming experience.
